Smart Goal Setting Tips

I read a useful article on smart goal setting. Here are my thoughts and interpretation of it:

Divide Your Goals into Tangible Steps

Break down your goals into steps you can take action on and cross off your list as you go along.  “Your mind will remain fresh and excited about the projects, and you’ll get them done faster.” Let’s say your goal is to be happy.  What would make you happy?  A better career, losing weight, a new car…Whatever it is, take it and dissect it even further.  Think in terms of measurements.  How many pounds do you want to lose?  How much money do you want to make?  What title do you want to have?  What kind of car?  Now dissect that again into the actions required to attain them.  What will it take for you to make $              dollars?  How many hours will you have to work?  Are there extra projects you can take on?  How many calories will you have to burn?  How can you reduce your intake?  What can you rearrange?

Write down the necessary steps to accomplish your goals.  Break them down until the steps are really simple and choose what it is you can do to start right now from your list.  A good first step is always gathering information on the subject.  If you feel like you don’t know where to start and you’re having difficulty breaking down into actions steps you might want to educate yourself first.  Read up on your future career, find out how much weight loss is healthy for your body type and how long it should take, etc.  Once you educate yourself you will feel more empowered and motivated to accomplish your goals.  Cross off completed steps as you go along; It’s like a pat on your back.  “Your mind LOVES to cross off those done-steps!  It makes you feel great, and the greater you feel, the more steps you get done.”

I hope you find these smart goal setting tips useful.  Happy Goal Setting and Merry Accomplishments!
